The Oregon Music Teachers Association (OMTA) is a professional organization dedicated to fostering excellence in music education.
Our members are the concert artists of today and tomorrow, the faculty members of the finest music schools and the private music teachers who build the foundation of America’s music scene.
OMTA is an affiliate of Music Teachers National Association—the oldest professional organization of music teachers in the United States.
Why Study with Our Teachers?
Syllabus.
Students of OMTA members may participate in Syllabus, a formal assessment of a student’s knowledge in music theory, technique, ear training, sight-reading and repertoire. Syllabus challenges students to achieve their musical goals and motivates teachers to provide a well-rounded musical education.
Performance Opportunities.
OMTA provides regular adjudicated music festivals hosted by every local association in the state in both performance and composition.
Scholarships and Awards.
OMTA sponsors several scholarships for outstanding students. Students from grade 7 through college may also participate in the prestigious MTNA auditions for the Baldwin-Selmer and Yamaha Wurlitzer awards. Participants in these contests may progress through local, regional and national levels of competition.
Lessons for the Underprivileged. OMTA participates in MusicLink, a program which provides scholarships to potentially gifted students in financial need.
